I see a lot of questions concerning cleaning saw steel. Another filer from another group made this PDF on cleaning saws. It has worked for me. It was made mostly for smaller hand saws, but works well on the larger crosscuts as well.

For cleaning saws I like just water and pumice stone. No chemicals, soap or sand paper to wear out.
