Seven years after the fire of 2011 (Horseshoe II), deadfall rate may have peaked. An all-volunteer group of 15 worked six days to clear at least 155 trees from 14 miles of trail. The worst (or best, if you like to saw!) stretches were the three miles north of Rustler Park where we cut out over 90 trees in two days. Our biggest tree was 37 inches that fell at a trail junction so required three cuts. I'll put in a couple before and after photos of a couple of our problem areas.Trees are mostly ponderosa pine and Douglas fir with white fir, white pine, Englemann spruce and aspen in the mix.
