Dolly Chapman course May 23-27

Post by trailcrew » May 28th, 2016, 4:54 am

Several forum members were in attendance at the Cradle of Forestry last week. The instructor was Dolly Chapman with Carl Deitz and PATCSawyer assisting. Sorry about the sideways photos. They're right side up if you click on them.

Great class and lots of enthusiasm from the participants. How did your saws cut at the graduation ceremony?

4 Days of saws. Brilliant. Can I put my name down for 2019. Got a pension kicking in at this time. So I could make it then. Can bring files and stuff, Dolly vice may be a bit tricky on the plane but I will make it fit in the overhead locker. Iam sure they will understand. Looks a great venue. Is it possible to put names to faces if that is ok. Dolly and Dan I know. Just makes things a bit more personal. Wish I had been there. Always learning. Pleased you all had a good time. So until 2019. Good wishes Duncan.

The filing class was hosted by the Wilderness Skills Institute and acceptance into the program and the various classes is determined by your level of involvement in wilderness-related activities. Many of the students maintain trails or are members of trail crews. Last year they had over 150 applications for 80 slots. If you are a member of a British trail maintaining club, that might work in your favor.

Dolly offers other courses throughout the year, mostly near her place in Calpine, CA. If we have enough interest, especially folks coming from the UK, I am sure we could get Dolly to put on a training for forum members for reasonable cost. Just give us advance notice and and we'll make it an event.

As for forum participants, the first row vice stage right belongs to forum member, Roscoe. As the photographer, I'm not in any pictures.
Dan, the saws cut great. The class was wonderful for me because I got to meet some other local saw enthusiasts and a few of the steps that had been a challenge in the past really "clicked" after some guidance from Dolly. In the few years since I last took her class, she has changed the way she explains a couple of the procedures. That helped my work quite a bit.
