Plastic lattice trim saw sheath

I wanted to share my version of the lattice sheath that I think Dolly first shared. These work great for trail work, and transport well in a vehicle or canoe. One of the challenges is keeping them user friendly, quick, secure, and free from metal fasteners protruding into the slot with the teeth and rakers. This version takes care of all those issues.

The shock cord bungy that came pre-assembled from www.oldscoutoutdoorproducts.com. The Lattice, rivets, and velcro from Lowes Big box store.

Rivets - aluminum 3/16 hole / 1/8" reach/depth
Velcro - 1.5" ( length long enough to wrap around the saw and overlap on to itself)

I placed the 1/8" holes for the shock cord 4.5" from each end. The seam from the molding process of the lattice worked well as the on center mark to drill the 1/8' hole. I disassembled the shock cord and discarded the extra plastic tube and reused the rest.

I placed the velcro on center of the lattice, and doubled the velcro over and used two rivets to secure it to the sheath.

Always looking for a better way to make these guards. The only fail I've ever had with one was on the center strap. That's the point of maximum flex and it cracked in-line with a small hole I'd drilled. It was also a very cold day. Never had any trouble with the end attachments no matter how I drilled, glued, or screwed the straps, as the lattice lies mostly flat at those points.

this is what i use, and the back of the trim gives me a place to write pertinent information: length, type, tooth count, date purchased, etc.
