Simonds No. 113?

Post by sumnergeo » June 11th, 2019, 10:18 am

I'm working on a 5 1/2 ft saw that I assume is a Simonds No. 113, the swayback cousin of the No. 13. I can't find an etch but there is a stamped D in the lower left hand corner on each side when the saw is held with the teeth down. I can't find a Disston that looks like this saw so what is the D doing there!

I'd guess that the stamp is more likely a past owners identification rather then a makers mark.

Are you sure it's not a "B"? I have an Ohlen-Bishop one man saw with a B stamped on the heel. I've not noticed a similar stamp on my big saws, but O/B copied the number scheme of Simonds and the saws look identical:

That would have been good to find, unfortunately it is a D about 3/16" high.
