Disston no. 514 "lance perforated" 54" single buck

Post by azmica saws » May 11th, 2012, 1:55 pm

well this saw went on the block yesterday so i thought i would post documentation with some pics - while i can still find them.
this is a full wide saw that is in pretty good shape - i set it up for the western woods - with a little extra appetite in it just for the heck of it - the plate characteristics justify it - it has been opened up a little so it is strung pretty taut - great harmonics ... it was singing to me while i worked on it. runs very smooth, very strong and surprisingly well in green eucalyptus which is pretty dense stuff.

specs:
WEIGHT WITH HANDLES: 6LB 13OZ.
PLATE WIDTH: HEEL 7 1/2" TOE 2 7/8"
GRIND: "CRESCENT"OR "SEGMENT" (the toothline is consistent at .070)
TOTAL TAPER: .070 - .052
CUTTER SET SEQUENCE - 4"
GULLET DEPTH: 1 5/8"
GULLET WIDTH: 13/16"
SPIDER SET @ .012 - RESULTING IN AN EFFECTIVE SET OF .014
RAKER'S PINNED AT .016 - CONSISTENT (THEY HAVE NO DIRECTIONAL LEAD)

Nice saw is right. What's the length? My 4 1/2 foot 514 is my single buck workhorse. I take that and a 6' Simonds 503 on all my logouts that don't require a 7 footer.
Thanks for the detail!
