Re: Two New Saws

Congratulations on your "new" saws! I would agree that you could there is a good possibility of them being Royal Chinooks. Carefully removing the rust will very often reveal partial logos, as the early saw were etched better than the newer ones. I have a topping saw that is just over half of an 8' C...

Re: Maybe 'Saw Acquisition Disorder' is a thing

You could easily have a dozen saws by the 4th of July!
Keep an eye out for two man saws, handles, and sharpening tools....
Happy hunting!

Re: Atkins 630 or 530?

Nice looking saw!
The 4 1/2 on the heel is probably teeth per inch?
I have a couple of very similar 30" saws - except that they have cast handles.
I believe they are called docking saws.

Gavin, thanks for posting rip saw #3, an interesting project!
I've never had the urge - or opportunity - to use a rip saw, but it's nice to see that your DIY conversion works!

Thanks for posting information about the social/class!
Having a couple of "swap" tables is a great idea as well.
I hope I can make it!

Re: A totaly differnt (Inverse) method of filing

I would think that it would cut well..... and that it would be quite easy to re-sharpen the "points" without changing the set or height of the tooth?
Let us know!
