Re: New Type of Saw

It looked similar to some of the Survival / Rescue Knifes i've seen around. Usually they talk about it being multi-tool knife, saw, prybar, extra cordage... https://coolhandgear.com/catalog/product/knives/1911-grip-handle-0-23-thick-440c-stainless-steel-blade-tanto-beast-survival-knife/ http://weapo...

Re: New Type of Saw

Interesting survival knife. Most of that style i'd seen have more of a tanto blade

Why did you change the saw tooth spacing?

Label Screw / Saw Medallion Identification

I just ran across a 'saw medallion' ID guide that should help figure out who made your saw. Or atleast whose replacement 'label screw' ended up on it over the years.

I didn't realize "bird with shield" was THAT popular of a logo!!!

Re: Maybe 'Saw Acquisition Disorder' is a thing

Picture test. https://imgur.com/lXxGtuAh.jpg The small saw is 3 feet, with a new maple handle i'm working linseed oil into. Yeah, i know... sharpen more buy less. Not sure who made the 2-man saws either. Eastern style handles are a little mismatched. One of the Atkins handles still has a model numbe...

The Woodwright Shop - crosscut conundrum

I don't know if anybody else here is into Roy Underhills tv show, but thought this would be of interest here The Woodwrights Shop, Season 35, episode 7 https://youtu.be/k59MG90lkqo It's not groundbreaking, but looked like a fairly good introduction to the tool. Just a little suprising that he was us...

Re: Maybe 'Saw Acquisition Disorder' is a thing

If a guy were motivated, i'm sure the dozen saw mark by then wouldn't be that difficult. It looks like in my area Handles really seem to evaporate, and i haven't had much luck with many other accessories yet. Those are some wild looking saws! That beast of a D-handle is beefy enough that way it almo...

Re: One-man Helper handle removal?

Thanks for the inside views, that helps see how it should work

Those are a bunch of really nice looking handles, what are you using for the new hardware to build those up?

Also what kind of rivet or pins are you using to replace the one that goes through the saw blade?

Maybe 'Saw Acquisition Disorder' is a thing

Hey, I'm a noob. I'm trying to get into crosscut saws due to many large old residential trees, and probably doing some trail clearing for hiking/mountain bikes. Plus i like tools, and old stuff. This fall I had a 48"x56" at base silver maple decide to dump a limb ON the neighbors house, got the rest...

Re: One-man Helper handle removal?

Thanks guys, Yes. The handles internal threading to pull the handle tight to top of blade is seized up. I'm having no problems removing the crosspin (bolt/nut?) holding the handle to the blade. Cool, I'd figured like most things it's mostly just a waiting game of oils, little tappy taps, wiggle tigh...

One-man Helper handle removal?

Are there any tricks to removing a stuck Aux handle from a one man saw? I picked up a painted but apparently low use (Disston?) Warranted Superior perferated lance tooth 4' D-handle with a helper handle on top. I can unbolt the handle at the crosspin yoke over the blade, but can't get the handle to ...
