Re: Snow Saw?

It's pretty. But I'm kinda glad to live somewhere that Roof Rakes are mostly optional, and i don't need to know about Snow Saws. https://www.msrgear.com/blog/making-better-snow-tools-msr-snow-saw-legacy/ Looks like mostly blunt teeth since you don't have to sever any fibers https://youtu.be/ImX9IE2Z...

Re: Gumming

When you guys do gumming and jointing, do you cut all the gullets back to deepest one, or shorten the long teeth to shortest, then recut gums between teeth?

So do you end up with the saw arc flattening out over time, or keep shortening the end teeth that don't really need it but maintain arc?

Pumice saw cleaning grades?

I know the initial reccomended saw rust removal / cleaning method seem to be pumice & water Since my area isn't known for a lot of volcanos to go pick up some 'local, handmade, free range' stones, I have messed a little with some Grill Cleaning blocks and Pumice Scouring Sticks. I don't see any that...

Re: 1874 Disston Catalog

I just noticed something that may help explain some of the REALLY BADLY filed saws we run across. Check out page 53, the Climax saw. M tooth, M tooth, Cleaner, M tooth, M tooth, Cleaner... With the side-cutting "cleaner" tooth needing to be shorter than the M teeth rakers That'd certainly get most o...

Re: Restoration Paint colors?

Ok cool, atleast i don't have to feel bad about getting the colors wrong! I had some Evaporust out for something else, so i made sure the mis-matched rough set of felling/bucking handle hardware fell into it for a while. I'll probably do the same with the bucking handles. Disston just got some Red i...

Restoration Paint colors?

I've got some eastern style 2-man saw handles i'm cleaning up and making prettier. I'm absolutely a noob at all this, but figure i might as well try to learn to do it right even on the stuff that doesn't matter. I haven't seen anyone mention any modern paints that are a pretty close color match to w...

Saw filing gauge initial setup?

I've got an old Atkins gauge i'm trying to get setup. As found, the filing plate on it was set up WAY too deep for setting the rakers. So the first saw is really hungry (hard pull), but doesn't eat much (inefficent). Without having a known-good reference to speed up tool setup, Is there a simple way...

Re: New Type of Saw

It looked similar to some of the Survival / Rescue Knifes i've seen around. Usually they talk about it being multi-tool knife, saw, prybar, extra cordage... https://coolhandgear.com/catalog/product/knives/1911-grip-handle-0-23-thick-440c-stainless-steel-blade-tanto-beast-survival-knife/ http://weapo...

Re: New Type of Saw

Interesting survival knife. Most of that style i'd seen have more of a tanto blade

Why did you change the saw tooth spacing?

Label Screw / Saw Medallion Identification

I just ran across a 'saw medallion' ID guide that should help figure out who made your saw. Or atleast whose replacement 'label screw' ended up on it over the years.

I didn't realize "bird with shield" was THAT popular of a logo!!!
