Plastic lattice trim saw sheath
I wanted to share my version of the lattice sheath that I think Dolly first shared. These work great for trail work, and transport well in a vehicle or canoe. One of the challenges is keeping them user friendly, quick, secure, and free from metal fasteners protruding into the slot with the teeth and...

Re: Hard lesson on fractured teeth. Simonds No. 13
I just had to say thanks to all the folks here pitching in their knowledge and experience. I don't know how many time I read and re-read all these threads and I still pick up things I missed. It might just be that when I first read the post I wasn't at a point in my saw filing that the info was rele...

Re: 2 man saw storage?
Update on the final saw storage rack.
I reused material from my home remodel that always seems to be going on.
Over all height 6 feet 4 inches and 39 wide and holds 37 saws.
I built it stong enough to hang, and I could stand on it.

Re: 2 man saw storage?
Thanks for the ideas! I am now planning to build a hybridized style of some of the original saw filers shacks, PATCsayer's, and a gun rack. The whole thing needs to be able to be moved eventually. I now have a plan and will post some pictures when I get it finished. I realize now that those two pict...

Re: Post-Tornado Wilderness Logout, BWCA
Sounds like a great opertunity and experience. That is a beautiful place. The 325 was probably great in those conditions to allow for wedge work in the complex binds I am assumimg you had. Nothing better the a trusty jersey! Thanks for sharing your experience. If you were to go back what would you c...

2 man saw storage?
Hey folks, With as much knowledge and quantity of saw owned by individuals in this community, we must have some good ideas on how to store multiple saw. Old saw filer shacks show most saws stood on end with teeth to the wall and sometimes teeth out. Saws hung on nails only takes a person so far befo...

Re: Western style crosscut saw temper?
I finished the 6' craftsman big timber today. Over all it had a lower temper. The other thing I noticed was the width of the teeth are not uniform. Some are wide and some fairly narrow all in the same set, and is that way throughout the saw. Test cuts were great in a soft hard wood and a pine log. T...

Re: Western style crosscut saw temper?
Thanks for the reply!
As soon as I started jointing the saw I could tell it did not have a high temper. Same with shapeing the rakers. No worries. This is my first western style saw to file so it will be a good one to work through not working about temper along with the thicker plate.

Western style crosscut saw temper?
I know eastern style (tab ends) saws temper can very greatly within a manufacture like Simonds. Some hardware models like craftsman or some olen bishop saws are very soft temper. I have two, what appear to be hardware lines of western style saw. Do western saw share the same traits in varing degrees...
