Re: Simonds 520 RAINIER ?

My 520 has no separate Seattle Hardware etch. The main etch is a SIMONDS MANUFACTURING CO etch with much more detail than the cutoff 520 for sale. The RAINIER in the banner appears similar or the same. I've wondered if RAINIER was the name of the model until it was given the 520 number?

Re: Simonds 520 RAINIER ?

Gary, Thanks. I also noticed it when it was posted for sale. I've been busy or I would have pulled my saw out and looked for the "hardware" part of the etch. I hope I did not loose any of it during cleanup. It is good to find out more about my saw. Now I need to find a hardware store catalog or flie...

Craftsman crosscut saw catalog

Anyone have Craftsman crosscut saw catalog information?
Do you have to find this in an old Sears catalog?

Re: Simonds Canada?

I was fortunate to find a Simonds Canada 1937 catalog. However, the only difference you will see in the catalog is the Etch (which contains "Canada"). The picture of the saws show only the two handle holes and it appears that and everything else may be the same as the standard Simonds 1937 catalog. ...

Re: Saw ID

I learned from Dolly and stick with her methods. I place the saw at a slight angle and trickle water over it while lightly polishing the etch area using a "Dolly Stone" and a grille brick for the rest of the saw. Dolly was nice enough to give me a couple natural pumice stones while attending her sha...

Re: Saw ID

It looks like my Canadian #22. Picture was not clear enough to see if you have three handle holes but it kinda looked that way? The profile of the end teeth (full set of end perforated cutters joined and then a set of two perforated not connected) is the same. As Jim noted you should be able to find...

Re: Simonds saw shortened on both ends?

I also see there is a Simonds 133 now on Ebay that is similar. I bought a Simonds 22 similar to this one that came out of a 5 pack found in an old hardware store. The story was that these were ordered this way from the factory. However, I doubt that since the packaging does not appear to be from the...

Re: 6' lance and raker bucking saw

Yes, Microlam as suggested by Dolly. Expensive but worth it because I no longer have warping due to conditions and very straight.

Re: 6' lance and raker bucking saw

I'm going to guess a Craftsman Big Fir just to stimulate other feedback. Do you have any faint etch left? Measured one I just sharpened for a local cache and it measures .095" at the center raker and .090" at the outer rackers. .060" at the center back and .071 on the back opposite the outer rakers....

Disston 400

I have a 48" Disston 400 that is a great saw for smaller top bound logs because you can get a wedge in sooner than a regular bucking saw. It is a straight back slender saw that has only one handle hole, sorta a cross between a falling and bucking saw. The Disston catalogs I have show this saw was on...
