Re: Identification help

Just to add that the etch will be at the center of the saw, but on one side or the other for that type of saw. Go VERY slow with removing the rust and watch for any indication of an etch as it can disappear quickly. I use a water trickle and a natural pumice stone for the etch area. Stroke only in t...

Re: Crosscut Saw certification

Here's the documents from the Forest Service which should cover all FS saw programs. Second one is the FA/CPR that was also extended. https://drive.google.com/open?id=17OOektkulqRvx0ArMz1ExjHyQBhpGvVK https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mnFZtgsH84T3uGIy2r_VY9D1AxMTrPc7 Why can't we attach Word files o...

Re: Bark removal

"We" always remove the bark but "we" also sharpen our own saws. There are groups out there that don't have to sharpen their own saws and therefore don't "feel the pain" of shortening the life of a saw. Carry a saw into the wilderness 18 miles and for many days you'll not want your saw dull on any pa...

Re: West Coast Crosscut Saw Filers Social

Thanks for posting this Don! I suggest anyone who is bringing something for “show and tell” to have a clear label on the item with the owners name and maybe “not for sale” or “sale or trade possible” on the tag. Maybe we could set up a table or two for all of our share items and separate tables for...

Re: MARSHALL WELLS 5 FOOT BUCKING SAW

It is Wells, see picture of example etch. It may not be the same as yours. I do not have much information on these saws but I have been told the big three saw makers made the saws for this hardware stores but they were not as high in quality such as fewer grinds and lower quality steel. This might e...

Re: Mine saw ID

I see other Disston Keystone docking saws with this etch graphic in the catalogs. I think this 2 man crosscut is an older Disston Plain that got the Keystone etch for Miner's use?

Mine saw ID

A friend has a 2 man mine saw with an etch I have not seen before. Was hoping somebody will have some information that could help with identification of this saw?

Re: Help identifying Two Man Saw Blade

Maybe a Disston 254 Triumph?
Need more information about the saw to determine. Have you attempted to safely expose an etch if it is still there?

Atkins bucking saw

Came across this Atkins bucking saw and am wondering which model it is? I have other Atkins bucking saws but this one has me stumped. It measures approx 0.089" at the tooth and 0.061 along the back. It is segment ground and I found it has a straight back. Oddly enough, I put my Atkins 51 against it ...
