Which saw should I use?

I'll be adding a new living room onto the front of my house in the near future. Unfortunately for the trees in my yard, sacrifices must be made. Plus, the trees have been damaged by high winds and bug infestation. I have two sweet gums about 12" at the base, Two 60' cedars that are about 18" at the ...

Re: Re-saw a 5/4 oak board

Dang Jim, that M tooth saw sure is pretty. Yea, I've been away from this site and clicked on this thread for no apparent reason, and I was surprised that I was the original author. I haven't yet cut the board, mainly because I've moved into a house without a shop and my tools and wood are inaccessib...

M tooth saw rehab

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbfhADcvv5Y

Neat to see somebody restoring a m tooth two man saw. One thing which caught my eye was he did not joint the tops of the blade and I was wondering if that was necessary since the saw was curved.

Thought?

Re: Simonds Felling Saw (#513?)

Jim, was the etch on your 513 acid etched or painted on? I cannot tell from the pic, but some parts of the etch look like they have flaked off like some paint was chipped.

Re: Re-saw a 5/4 oak board

Thanks for the replies. Yea, I do have a D-8 and I should go and sharpen it and use it. I just figured that a 4' crosscut saw might cut the oak a wee bit quicker than manning though it with a D-8. I have two boards and if I were any kind of scientist I'd probably do a comparison betwixt the D-8 and ...

Re-saw a 5/4 oak board

I'm thinking about resawing a 5/4 thickness, eight inch wide and a couple of feet long board so I can make a saw till out of the wood. I have a band saw which would accomplish this task in a few minutes, but I say what the heck and am willing to try an old fashioned way. What I'd like to know is if ...

Is this saw cutting well

Mr. Chickadee (Josh) has a YouTube website and is using manual tools to build a house in the hills of Tennessee. The video I'm highlighting shows Josh using a one man bucking saw to cut a scarf joint into sill plate. The part I want you fellows to watch starts at the 2:00 minute mark. I cannot tell ...

Rust, rust, rust

Drats, I went out to the work shop and was looking at a two man saw I've had laying on my workbench and I noticed the beginning signs of rust. I know that a year or two ago I had cleaned the surface with pumice stones and other things to make it shine. I cannot remember if I put anything on the fini...
