ABANDONED 1930'S LOGGING CAMP?
I seem to remember that an abandoned logging camp from the 1930's in Humbolt County, California, was discovered some years ago. Supposedly, according to my memory of the reports, it contained the undisturbed tools, crosscut saws, and logging equipment, intact and undisturbed. I remember seeing a pic...

ever seen one of these?
my neighbor asked me to come over and identify her "cross cut saw thingie". what I found seems to be a handle operated cross cut saw frame, and log holder. the wooden parts still have the original red paint, and the steel/iron parts are mostly pretty rusty. the whole device is about 7 feet long, and...

Re: Your back.
I panicked when our (!) site was no longer available - too much information to lose, and I would miss all the back-and-forth between people who actually know what they are doing. as soon as our site was up and running, I immediately started printing everything I think I might want for future filing,...

so i bought a couple of saws...
so I bought a couple of saws, and as I see no manufacturer's marks, i'd sure appreciate some help identifiying them: felling/falling saw is 66" long, with lance teeth and rakers, 6 1/2 starter teeth on both ends (both sets of starter teeth revealed bright red paint after the electrolysis process - S...

Re: Saw Handles
handles.jpg a cache of assorted crosscut saw handles and mounting hardware I literally stumbled over in the garage of an elderly man who sold me a pretty nice 66" 2-man bucking saw. i'm still cleaning the rust and grime off the castings (I don't collect handle hardware or saws - I want to return th...

Re: help with saw ID please?
finally tried the saw on some 8" dry pine firewood logs, and it runs like a charm - not charm-like enough to entice the wife to try the borrowed helper handle on the toe-end, but she was actually impressed. did not see a stamped C letter anywhere on the heel - i'll take the tote off this weekend to ...
