Re: Crosscut Saw Co. Western Style Handles #432
We bought 2 pair for our saws. Every body liked them for awhile until they got crisp on having to spin 3 parts to remove and add them from the saw. I went to the hardware store and bought a 1 and 1/2 inch pipe nipple and 2 wingnuts to fit the thru bolts. Sliced the pipe nipple in 4ths, Ripped a slot...

Ahhh! The 7 1/2 teeth on each end is what caught my eye on this saw.
No 503s around to compare it to.
This is my only picture of the lovely mural:

Re: 3.5 Pound Single Bit
Affirmitive. I was totaly focused on underbucking when I selected this handle style. We underbuck with an axe handle or a second saw operator. Last season we used both wooden and fiberglass handled axes as an underbuck aide. At first I thought the springiyness of the fg (Fiberglass) would be too wie...

Our District Rec shop bought 2 6 foot curtis saws a couple of seasons back. The next winter we took them down to the Smoke Jumper Base for sharpening.Thier filers wouldn't touch them.

3.5 Pound Single Bit
Council Tool 3.50# dayton pattern single bit with 32 inch fiberglass Nupla handle.
I made one of these for each saw team on our crew to replace our double bits.
I'm not sure but It looks like Nupla sells these pre made in 28, 32, and 36 inch length.

Re: Next project
I have huge interest in these projects. I have a 5 foot Homesteader thats a bit short in the tooth.
If it gets worn and filed flat it will still have alot of metal for a new set of teeth.
Nice to see good saws getting filed to work instead of painted.
