Hello and thank you for being a part of this site! I created this forum 10 years ago when I realized there was no place on the web that had all the information I was looking for to learn more about crosscut saws. It started because I wanted to be able to ask people if they recognized a saw I had whi...

Re: A Theory on Crosscut Saw Certification
If you enter into a Challenge Cost Share or a Participating Agreement, rather than a Volunteer Agreement, you should be able to utilize your organization's own insurance. There is usually a requirement that you provide "training" to your sawyers, but they don't require it to be S-212 or equivalent.

Response to "A Study of Crosscut Saws..."
I recently came across an article in a national publication, entitled "A Study of Crosscut Saws or Power Saws for Trail Clearing by Dan Applebaker”. I'm not sure how many others have seen the article, but it can be found at the very end of the newsletter here http://www.bcha.org/media/uploads/2015/1...

Thank you for your support! 10 years!!!
Hello sawyers! We did it again! I want to thank the people who donated to keep this site alive. There was a small group of generous members who made it happen and I think we should all be very thankful to them. The site is paid for at the basic level through this time in '24. I will keep the donatio...

Ohlen Bishop No. E 492 NE
This is an Ohlen Bishop one man saw I just filed for a friend. It has a great logo that didn't get picked up in the photo very well. It includes a big eagle with outstretched wings and the words "AMERICAN EAGLE" above it. Made in Columbus, Ohio. This saw was 4 1/2' long, Lance Tooth, and very slight...

Re: setting cutter teeth
Josh, When I used to set with the saw horizontal, I would go through the whole under side of the saw with a spider and a sharpie and mark which teeth needed more (/) set, less (\) set, or set properly (X). Then hit and check a few to get a feel for how much they move, then run through the whole saw,...

Re: Lubricant
I run into a lot of different soft woods and always carry a small squirt bottle of diesel. WD-40 works fine, but I don't like to carry an aerosol can around. A little 4oz squirt bottle of lube really helps the sawing go faster and smoother, and keeps your saw clean. I recommend it. I've used citrus ...
