Need help with tooth pattern

Postby underbucker » November 12th, 2016, 8:54 pm

This lance-tooth bucking saw has a distinctive tooth pattern. I could not match the pattern in any of the catalogs. The bucking handle is Atkins. I suspect the saw to be either Atkins or Simonds. Can I get some help?

Jason O'Grady recognized the pattern as #4 "Perfection". It can be seen in the 1941 Atkins catalog. I missed it because earlier versions of the Perfection did not have perforated starter teeth.

It has that space between the second and third cutters like most Simonds saws, and a longer row of cutters than American Simonds, so I would guess Simonds Canada.

Well, Treeline, looks like you are correct. Cleaned saw yesterday and found Simond's No. 202 makers mark.

Excellent! That's so cool to find an etch under a painted saw. a Simonds 202 is a good blade. I still have a 5.5' and I sold a 5' a few years ago. Post up pics when it's finished and back to work. ;)

Edit:

Here's a thread I did in the saw database for the 5' 202 when I tuned it up
