Estate Sale in Portland Oregon Area

Postby bwilbur » July 11th, 2015, 7:40 am

I am having trouble pasting the link from my phone but there is an estate sale listed in Craigslist for a logging tool collector by the name of Len Hunter. The sale is this morning (7/11). Search Craigslist for Len hunter estate sale if you are interested. There are quite a few axes, saws, handles, etc.

I made it up to the auction. I've never seen so many saws and saw stuff in one place in my life. The prices were higher then flea market prices but lower then Ebay. Undercutters were going for about $80 and handles for $15 to $30 each by the box. A pocket undercutter went for $425 and a Black Raven 15 9/16" falling axe head went for $3250. That was the highest item. There was a bunch of ax heads and axes.

I bought one of the lowest priced saws. Two 5' saws for $30. One is a true junker and one is a diamond in the rough. The junker is pitted, the ends had been cut off and the it is worn way down. The other is a 5' Royal Chinook that likely has never been filed. It had some surface rust and I cleaned it up some. No logo but it will make a great user.

I also bought a 6 1/2' 372 Colonial Bucking saw. I had never hear of one of those and don't find anything on line.

I'm glad someone from this group got to go to the auction. I was thinking about it, but I have been to Shelton and Dayton couple times already this week and tired of traffic. Besides my wife told me I already have too much crosscut saw stuff already. I've been looking over the Filing rooms in the Simpson Sawmills there. Lots of Old Sawmill stuff in those places. Trying to figure out what to do with it all.
