"Craftsman "Big Fir" who made it?

Postby Double Ott » March 23rd, 2015, 10:06 am

I have a friend who has his Grandfathers saw. He says the logo says it is a ...""Craftsman "Big Fir". He says it is at least 45+ years old.
Can any of you tell who manufactured this saw for Sears?

I just picked up a 7foot felling saw that I thought was an Atkins 52, upon cleaning the logo says Atkins Big Fir with no number. It is a match to my Atkins 52. I wonder if the Craftsman big fir is the same?

I picked up a rusty 6 ft. falling saw this morning on which I could see a partial logo.
After I got it home I cleaned it up a little - I can't get a good picture of the logo, but it reads...
Highest Quality
CRAFTSMAN
BIG FIR
No. 4976
Special Analysis Steel

"Craftsman" and "Big Fir" are in a "box" with the sides being fir trees

When I get it cleaned up I'll try and post a picture.
It appears to be a good quality cresent ground saw, and the teeth are still about 1 5/8" long.

I've got one in my saw bench to be tuned. Any information on this saw?

Thank you for the replies, it is really appreciated. Does anyone want to guess who made this saw for Sears Roebuck & Co.?

That diamond indicates a vintage Curtis Saw.

Your diamond made me look again at a Craftsman perforated D-handle ready for sharpening - sure enough, it has the diamond! Thanks for the post Double Ott.
