Crosscut saw Filing class
White Salmon, Washington
Joel Burns Host
John Starling Instructor
Sept. 10, 2016 all day
This will be a small class for about seven people. There are still two openings left for anyone that would like to have Saw Filing instruction. We will have saw vices available and tools for anyone that doesn’t have their own tools. I also will have a verity of saws that you can choose from, to practice on. You will have the opportunity to purchase them after the class.
Cost is $200 This is to help offset the cost of tools and facilities
We plan on covering all the Basics-
Nomenclature:
Slope, Fleam, Rake, Hook, Tooth types
Tools:
Files, Hammers, Anvils, gauges, jointers, spiders
Saw Types:
Champion, Lance, Bucking, Felling, Bow, Modern
Safety:
Handling. Guards, Gloves, Glasses, Fire
Wood types:
Bevels, clearances
Swaging Rakers, Setting cutters, Leveling
Cleaning, prepping saws, tools
Advanced:
Rakers
Lead, Swaging-Hot, cold
Setting
Plyers, Hammer and Hand held anvil, fixed anvils
Wresting, Pros-Cons
Saw Vices
Tilting, radius, plank, tool shelves
Saw Tooth design
Vintage, Modern, History of design, Pro competition
Tooth Repair
Forging, Welding, MIG
Leveling/straightening
Straight edges, Hammers, Anvils, Lighting, Reading Tension
And of course how to move the file across the tooth!
If this class is successful, we hope to have another next year, with a longer time frame available to better cover all the areas of saw filing. This class is a one day with possibly a few hours on the 11th to finish any unfinished business from the day before.
