Hi all from a hand-saw user.

Hello everyone,

I am over a half-century old and I grew up cutting, splitting and burning firewood because my father told me to.
I have always worked with my hands for a living and appreciated good tools. Over the years I picked up a number of saws and I still have the splitting maul I used as a kid.
I was the appointed splitter because I was the oldest boy and I was the tallest and strongest, I got pretty good at it. Of course back then we used chainsaws whenever possible because we were trying to heat the house, garage and cut extra wood to sell to other people. Now days I use hand-saws all I can because I want the exercise and enjoy using them, I have not started a chain-saw this year yet and I may not at all.

Of the saws that reside here two are two-man crosscut, one is a two-man felling saw, there is one buck-saw, a one-hand crosscut and a number of hand-held rip saws. I also have a lot of carpenter's, cabinetmaker's etc. and some that are collectible.

That is about it for me and saws. A lot of my saws need sharpened and set, so that is my next project. I am always on the lookout for old files, there are about 300 laying around here now, I am hoping that some of them will work on the teeth of the saws I am using.

Thank-you for having me.

Welcome Beng, what part of the world are you from?

Sounds like we are in the came boat when it comes to firewood cutting, I've cut about 7 cords this year without a drop of gasoline.

For sharpening saws you can see most of the references I've found at one place at:
