Anyone ever sharpen one of these?

Postby rjdankert » January 11th, 2017, 4:57 pm

A friend gave me this saw a few years ago.

I cleaned it up and jointed the teeth, set it aside and never got back to it. I did try searching the internet but no help.

The only marking I found was the "diamond"'

Thanks for looking

I've sharpened similar saws. Basically the same as a normal peg and raker crosscut but the teeth are smaller.

I'd start out with a set of about 0.010" because of the shallow blade. Rakers maybe something like 0.005" shorter then the cutters.

I made a special set gauge and used a smaller pliers type setting tool to bend the cutters.

I have that same diamond stamping on a lance-tooth saw. Anyone know which maker used that mark?

Those diamonds are for vintage Curtis Saw Co.

Thanks. I was looking for the boxed C and didn't see it.

Here are two photos showing the diamond.
One one a Chaftsman

And one from a one man saw:

The one on the Craftsman is more diamond shape without anything inside the diamond and the other (part is not stamped into the saw) is a square with a C inside. I don't know if both were made by Curtis but think the one with the C inside is a Curtis.
